There is often a diversity of answers to the question: “What is Your Product?” Not agreeing on the answer has broad implications for product strategy, internal organizational design, and ongoing operations. Whether you are faced with this challenge or want to take a step back to improve your product management practices, the first step is to define your product. That’s where the Product Canvas comes in.

The Product Canvas is a tool used to align product managers, product owners, product development teams, and associated organizations with a shared understanding of their product. You use it to feed your product strategy and tactics. You also use it to onboard new people, set content for product planning and discovery, product roadmapping and backlog management, and as a tool to shift toward becoming a product-focused and customer-centric organization.

Using a tips handout that guides you through the blocks on the canvas, you experience how the Product Canvas surfaces essential questions about your product and why the collaborative process used to create and maintain the Product Canvas is its most valuable benefit.
